One of the reasons I probably opted to re-visit grade nine is my reawakened love for Beavis and Butt-Head, one of my favourite shows of the time, and still beloved today. The CD released in the 90s, The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience, featured an intercutting of hilarious dialogue from our beloved dumb duo, often interacting with artists on the disc, with music in between ‘skits’. The lead-off track, a rare b-side dropped from Nirvana’s In Utero album and then tuned up for this recording, is one of my personal favourites on the entire mix (along with Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Monsta Mack). It’s classic Nirvana grunge, and a befitting sarcastic opener, given that the entire point of the TV series is how Beavis and Butt-Head aren’t stupid; they’re naive, but strangely insightful and reflective on our society.
