A chronic insomniac since age 15, you could say that I’m one acquainted with the night, as the poem goes.

There is a beauty that lies in the hours nestled between final call and sunrise, a time of solitude that can be madness or mercy, depending on whom you ask.  In these moments when the world is asleep, music often resonates loudest, even if the composition itself is soft.

On her latest single “Hold On”, Dublin’s Róisín O weaves a delicate piano tapestry reminiscent of Kate Bush (think “And Dream Of Sheep” or “This Woman’s Work”).  An exploration of the darkest moments of a soul and the often tiny thread of light one might spy on the horizon, “Hold On” feels like the distant stars dotting a cloak of ebony sky.  Evocative lyrics meet with a stunning voice that holds power, but is cleverly and artistically restrained until just the right moment.  Strength within self-doubt, personified.
