365 Days of Music: Day 357

Psychopomps (from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός (psychopompos), literally meaning the “guide of souls”) are creatures, spirits, angels, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls to the afterlife.

– Wikipedia –

I’ve spoken highly of this band in the past for this project, but I simply must stress again that of all the Canadian artists I’ve loved, this now defunct bands is one of the bands I respect most for their artistic integrity and sheer talent.  The numerous instruments utilized – all played by the band – coupled with their use of intellectual materials and the spiritual as their inspiration put them a step above most artists.  This song gives me chills every time I hear it, the lyrics so sinister and yet, so genuine in their depiction of death and what lies beyond: transition.

Best of all:  the video is a live version, which truly demonstrates Jeff Martin’s emotive performances.
