I remember when I first heard this song, it was the second verse that really caught my attention: “…And all I can do is read a book to stay awake/And it rips my life away, but it’s a great escape…” I spent my entire (mostly miserable) childhood buried in the pages of books, running from everyone and everything, including my own head. In the world of books, there was a quiet. A peace. Even if the story was a tale of horror, it somehow felt better than reality.
In books, I believed in the possibility of brighter tomorrows after the rainy days. Standing in the rain, I believed in renewal. I believed in days without mental storms.
Maybe they’re on the horizon…
