There are people in this world who command respect through their words and actions, and there are those who simply feel entitled to it, and demand it. And when you refuse to serve blindly – as with those taken in by the charlatans of televangelism, for example, these people push harder, working at any cost to browbeat you into submission.
I know it would be so much easier to put my head down, nose to the grindstone, and play along. But it’s just not in my nature to mindlessly follow. I don’t have the stomach for lies and hypocrisy. And to let someone whose values are skewed get away with blatant discrimination is a repugnant thought to me.
Although a song commenting on the dysfunctional relationship between religion and money, today’s song has been my refrain as of late: head like a hole/black as your soul/I’d rather die than give you control.
