Blaring music in the office at work on the strange overnight hours we keep, I can’t help but break into song.  Especially when the classic rock kicks in, and we all instantly shout, “This track is on Rock Band.”  Granted, I’ve known Kansas since I was a little girl, courtesy of my dad, but still, I confess that I always want to off-key karaoke tracks like these.  You can only imagine how enthuastically I pound the microphone as a tambourine when playing.

But this song endures because at its core, it’s relatable and rich in emotive lyrics.  And that’s what makes it an essential selection for this year of music, which is over halfway done…
