365 Days of Music: Day 159

One of my favourite people in the world is Suze.  Suze and I share a lot of similar interests, including the music of Tori Amos and the TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.  For the second time in recent months, Suze came to my neck of Ontario for a Buffy marathon, which we dubbed Buffy-Gras.  Each of us took a turn at choosing an episode to watch, arguing as to why it was worth watching (for my thoughts on the episodes from last night, see very special off-topic entry HERE).

It would be an obvious choice to hit up the musical episode, Once More, With Feeling, for today’s song of the day.  To foil you, I’m going with something else:  the series theme song.

As Suze and I discussed last night, the theme, written by Nerf Herder, is one of the best TV themes in existence.  As Suze describes it, the theme is pretty much the show’s mission statement:  punk-rock bad-assness.  Buffy isn’t like the other Slayers in her lineage;  she’s mouthy, disobedient, and does everything contrary to the rules laid out by the Watchers’ Council.  And that is exactly why Buffy survives far beyond her expected expiry date.

Plus, hello?  Kick-ass riff, much?
