Okay, this one’s from 1979, but it permeated the 80s all the same, and marked a transition from the disco sound to the distinctive flavour of the 80s.
There’s something delicious about the melody on this one, but it also has a deeper meaning in its story. The evolution of the music scene and how quickly we shun the ‘old formats’ and move onward, leaving our former stars in the dust of their past successes, reflects our fickle pop culture to this day. One hit wonders abound as we exchange one star for another. And as MTV becomes so diluted with reality shows that its original purpose is long gone, it makes me want to sing of reality shows killing video stars.
