In the continuing Matthew Good week, I present his first solo single after the break up of Matthew Good Band.
It’s not just the song that mesmerizes me in this case, although it’s certainly become one of my favourites of his body of work. It’s also a video that speaks to Matthew’s political knowledge base, with subtle jabs at society and pop culture throughout. My favourite quote of all the text that shoots across the screen:
“Everyone has a God to kill for; they just all have different names.”
In light of the song’s 2002 release date, and knowing my stance on Bush and his disastrous run as President, you can begin to appreciate my affection. But above and beyond that, it’s a kick-ass rock track.
