In honour of my favourite holiday’s imminent approach, I’m going to deliver a week of ‘spooky’/ominous tunes for your listening pleasure. Strap on your best mask and prepare to take a little walk on the dark side.
For starters, one of the many genius soundtrack choices for the recent remake of Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (the only truly worthwhile remake in recent years of a classic horror film, if you ask me) graces the list. Johnny Cash has a voice ripe for creepy; take his version of Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt for starters. The lyrics for this song are enough without the rich gravel of Cash accenting the almost cheery strumming of guitar, making for a disturbing contrast – and a favourite song of mine. I will forever see bloodthirsty zombies when this song plays, and I am quite happy with this.
Enjoy, my lovelies!
